Al Shabab ate my hamster!

OK not really, I don’t even own a hamster.

But every other evil you could think of and quite a few that would never cross your mind are getting thrown at the Somali Mujahideen by the Somali Fasiq news media which seeks to misinform the public whilst making a quick dollar selling ad’ space for music, dating and other haram activities.

Allah states in the Quran:

O you who believe! if a Fasiq (evil-doer) comes to you with news, look carefully into it, lest you harm a people in ignorance, then be sorry for what you have done.
Quran translation, Surah al Hujurat, 49:6

No believer with even a small understanding of the deen would fall for such news reporting, they would know that when someone openly engaged in evil acts is bringing you negative news you need to verify it.

This is especially true as it was shown last year by Somali bloggers that the Transitional Federal Government had bought the services of Hiiraan Online, one of the main news services for Somalis, publishing in both English and Somali to get maximum coverage (and sales for their adverts) to the exile community.

Link – The Islamic Standard – Is Hiiraan online sleeping with the TFG?

I am not saying al Shabab are perfect, but even the Sahabah made mistakes in their lives including in the field of Jihad so it would be manifestly unjust to expect brothers (and sisters) fighting fisabilillah today to live up to a standard even the Sahabah couldn’t manage.

But the stories coming out in the Fasiq Somali expat press are exaggerations, inventions quite frankly unreal and totally unbelievable.

So al Shabab setup Islamic courts in all areas they control and finally sisters are able to seek divorce when before the only option some of them had then was to go to often biased clan elders to ask for divorce if the husband wouldn’t give it.

Other sisters in areas under al Shabab control have sought divorce after husbands refused to go in the path of Allah, calling their former husbands cowards and sitters. Link – The Islamic Standard – Somali women divorcing their husbands for not joining the Jihad.

Divorce is a very serious matter but the justice shown by Al Shabab resulted in a wave of sisters waving goodbye to oppressive husbands and marriages they were unhappy in but the rumour mongers at Hiiraan online and other sites went into overdrive and came out with a story of al Shabab forcing families apart when they were only granting the rights to Muslim women long denied them when Southern Somalia was under the control of the various clan militias and warlords.

Al Shabab has become known for destroying the disgusting Khat industry, forbidding it in areas they control and removing this dangerous drug from the market places and in the process depriving a lot of Somali secularist businessmen of a handsome profit.

Khat is a stimulant widely used in Somalia and Yemen and you can see it freely available on the streets of the UK and has never been made illegal as it is seen as drug that only effects immigrants but it destroys families, both here in the UK as well as in Muslim countries.

But the actions of al-Shabab mean the only place Khat is able to legally enter southern Somalia is through Mogadishu airport, under the control of the TFG but this hasn’t stopped the Fasiq media making up reports of Al Shabab being the drug peddlers not the TFG of 2km Square President Sharif!

It seems the rule is whatever al Shabab do which is praiseworthy accuse them of the opposite, what ever happens exaggerate and lie to put the Mujahideen in the worse light possible.

The secularists, those that deny Allah’s exclusive right to legislate for mankind and those whose hearts are filled with the filthy disease of Asabiyyah, putting clan before Quran have united together to slander the soldiers of Allah at every opportunity they can.

…They plot and plan and Allah plans and Allah is the best of planners.
Quran translation, Surah an-Anfal, 8:30

It burns the Kuffar and Munafiqeen to see the successes of al-Shabab, so they seek to answer it with propaganda, a grubby little whispering campaign of lies and despite all their money and influence given to them by their Awliyah in the capitals of America, Ethiopia and Europe still they fall down and fail.

The sincere believers stride on, taking more and more land and putting it under Shariah, never fearing the blame of the blamers and have instead come up with slick information and recruitment videos of their own, advertising their success and the latest is one of best so far.

* Please note The Islamic Standard is showing this videos which are legally available through youtube for the purposes of reporting on current affairs and nothing else.

But what is more worrying for the Kuffar and their allies claiming Islam amongst the TFG is not the professional level of video editing shown but the professional level of soldiering, the training in FIBUA, heavy weapons, ambushes and assassinations.

The videos are also subtitled in various places in not only English to attract Muslims from the west but also in Swahili, a language spoken by mostly Muslim Peoples half the way down the coast of the African continent.

The video shows various Al-Shabab leaders who unlike their western counterparts or various ‘leaders’ in the Muslim nations fight from the front just like Rasoolullah (saws) and also shows Muslims praying using their weapons as a sutrah, as is the sunnah of the final messenger of Allah and reviving the Sunnah.

The al Shabab troops are also shown modestly dressed with a uniform of a light green Kamees, and using live ammunition including RPG’s and machine guns in their training where as journalists have shown videos of the government forces training with sticks instead of rifles!

No wonder so many are switching sides to join Al-Shabab who are better trained, better armed, gaining increasing support amongst the people and even the government of semiautonomous Puntland who are meant to be allies of Sharif and the TFG recently stopped cooperating due to the number of Al-Shabab recruits coming from government ranks.

Mr. Daud Mohamed Omar, Puntland’s Planning and International Cooperation Minister, told the BBC Somali Service during a Tuesday interview that the international community’s funding of military training for TFG soldiers in countries like Uganda and Djibouti is “ineffective”.

“More than 12,000 security forces have been trained for the TFG with international support. So the question is: Where are they today? Are they defending Mogadishu? No, because most of them have joined the insurgency,” Minister Daud told the BBC last month.

We ask all our readers to make Du’a, especially during the last third of the night when Du’as are more likely to accepted that Allah continues to grant success to the Mujahideen in Somalia and elsewhere and that He answers the Du’as of the oppressed and put down in Somalia with removing the corrupt warlords and businessmen who still rule large parts of Mid and North Somalia and brings Al-Shabab into rulership of all the Somali and other Muslim peoples of East Africa, ameen.

I think its really sad that you are actually promoting these corrupt people. They have all the signs of the khawarij and the scholars of this nations said so. You probably don’t live Somalia, and your information is therefore based things that you gathered on forums. Go to Somalia and see how life is for the somali people. They are under great hardship and this group is a trial for us Somali folk.

We need to go back to our religion and make sincere dua. Only Allah is able to help us and destroy them.

Please please learn your religion and stop following your empty desires. You are clearly very jahil on the issues relating to disobeying your leaders and promoting killing, support the khawarij.

    • Assalaamu alaykum Sameeha,

First of all you are right, I do not live in Somalia (but this is a UK based blog so no prizes there). I try to keep up with the news all around the world and along with some others educate people regarding what is happening and not just to believe the fasiq media (hence this article).

So based upon what knowledge I have I do disagree that they have all the traits of the khawarij sect, or that they have rebelled against the legitimate islamic rulers which is only one of the traits mentioned regarding that sect.

I do agree we all need to learn our deen, me, you, all of us and not follow empty desires, this is true for all of us.

So do you yourself accept it is not permissable to rebel against the muslim ruler even if they are sinful just as long as they do not commit open kufr as is authentically reported to us in various hadith?

If so how can you advocate rebellion against al shabab when their administration was in place before Sharif and his apostate regime?

Or do you follow the mistaken opinion it is not permissable to rebel against any ruler or any ruler claiming Islam even if the evidence is clear they are upon disbelief?

If so it would be easy to show you the daleel showing this opinion is falsehood and rejected.

  7. Wa A’laykumu Salaam Dawud,

The point here is that you are not at all qualified to deduce islamic legislations and the ulema of the truth have spoken against this group.

I do not doubt that some of the supporters of al-shabab are indeed sincere, but simply misinformed and misguided. They placed far too much trust on people who do not have the qualification to lead them.

Sadly the biggest problem facing us ( Somali community in the west) is the disease of takfir. Prior to this, we had our youth running wild with weed, prison, alcohol etc… but now, though they “found islam”…have sadly been misguided.

The “mistaken” opinion as you call it, is the opinion of the people of the truth. The one which is free from innonvation/desire and one which is backed up and supported by the ulema. Please brother open your eyes and your heart and seek the truth.

I will not claim to have knowledge, and so I will refer you to what the ulema have said about these issues and you’ll find that your opinion is not one which is support by the ulema…but rather, a strange thought. And as you know, we, as ahlul-Sunnah should stay clear of strange unfonded opinions when there is clear text from the sunnah.

    Please see the following links.

Abul-Hârith Ahmad b. Muhammad Al-Sâ`igh, the close and respected friend of Imâm Ahmad, reports:

I asked Abû ‘Abdillâh (Imâm Ahmad) about something that had occurred in Baghdâd, and [because of which] some people were considering revolting [against the ruler]. I said, “O Abû ‘Abdillâh, what do you say about taking part in the revolt with these people?” He decried it and started saying, “Subhânallâh! The blood [of the people], the blood [of the people]! I do not believe in this and I do not tell others to do it. For us to suffer our situation in patience is better than the fitnah (tribulation) in which blood is spilt, property is taken, and the prohibited are violated (e.g. the honor of women). Do you not know what happened to the people (in the days of the previous fitnah)?” I said, “And the people today, Abû ‘Abdillâh, are they not in fitnah [because of the ruler]?” He replied, “If so, it is a limited fitnah, but if the sword is raised, the fitnah will engulf everything and there will be no way to escape. To suffer patiently this [current difficulty], where Allâh keeps your religion safe for you is better for you.” I saw him decry revolting against the leaders, and say, “[Do not spill the people's] blood. I do not believe in this and I do not command it.”

  8. asalaamu alaykum sister,

I see so we’ve reduced the salafi manhaj down to ‘mufti says we follow’ now?

There I was under the misguided impression we were meant to examine the opinions of the ulema, their daleel and come to conclusions on who is correct according to the Quran and sunnah, according to the understanding of the salaf, yes?

So yes some of the ulema of Ahlus sunnah criticised Usama bin ladin, should we not all love him because he is a believer. Expressing love for the muslims is part of al wala, expressing enmity is only for the kuffar and murtadeen not for the believers, no matter how misguided.

So why is expressing love for Usama an evidence against anyone? Expressing love for him is part of our deen.

This expressing enmity towards believers and refusing to show them love is actually a sign of the khawarij itself so be careful of it and those groups upon this trait.

But other scholars such as sheikh al shuaibi spoke out in favour of him and many others remain silent which is not surprising given most live in states where they face torture and oppression for speaking out in such matters and few have the courage to do so.

So what do you deduce when a few scholars speak out as they are permitted by the government, a few speak out suffering oppression and the rest stay silent despite their freedom and ability to refute sheikh usama if they should so wish?

Did you know the saudi state began with the slaughter of 3000 sheikhs and leaders of the mujahideen after they were tricked into attending a conference then murdered?

Do you know that just over the past couple of decades thousands of ulema and students of knowledge in saudi have been arrested, imprisoned, tortured and killed?

The situation in other states is if anything worse, far worse and until recently to attribute yourself to the salafi dawah in Egypt was to invite the attention of the secret police who hated the salafis far worse than our beloved ikhwaani brethren.

Please don’t however take this out of context, I am not saying Sheikh usama is right in everything, I don’t agree with some of his viewpoints but in every instance where I disagree such as the targeting of non combatants there are ulema of ahlus sunnah who backed up such opinions as valid and permissible so I pray he gets the one reward of the right intention.

Now of the three links you brought,

The first doesn’t work. it only links to the general salafibackbite.net website and I will be honest I have little time for the madkhali salafis, especially as Abu Khadijah was recently told to stop acting as a scholar giving fatwah left right and centre by non other than rabi al makhal himself and he has no more right to be listened to on such matters than you or me.

The 2nd also doesn’t work, as I am not a member of troid, nor do I want to be as once again I have better things to do with my time than wade through article after article backbiting and nick picking this or that du’ee, scholar or mujahid.

Troid, salafibackbite.net and spubs are not the be all and end all of ahlus sunnah wal jammat, they are one small part of the ummah and their constant proclamations of being upon the Haqq and being backed by the ulema are often half truths, selective quotes etc and everyone else being off the manhaj, bidati, ikhwaani etc etc is boring and irritating to be honest and I am a little past falling for their trickery,

‘Been there, nearly bought the t-shirt but decided against it in the end when I started to meet salafis with more balanced views.’

The madkhali movement, despite much government support is relatively unknown even in Saudi Arabia where alhamdulillaah the salafi youth are more balanced in their understandings of the deen, more forgiving of mistakes and differences of opinion and less quick to cast everyone out of the deen or declare them ‘off the manhaj’ over the slightest difference.

I think sister both you and me are students ourselves, falling well below the level of even talib ul ilm, I know I certainly am.

I would advice you to widen the people you take your ilm from, not this extremely narrow interpretation of the salafi manhaj which has turned it into a hizb and an extremely rude one lacking adhab which gives the rest of us trying to stick to the salafi manhaj a bad name amongst the rest of the muslims.

Do we really want to be saying ‘lets not take ilm from so and so’ just because he attends events where brothers from ikhwaan ul muslimeen or even alleged ikhwaanis also spoke like they did with Abu Ameena Bilal Philips?

Already dealt with one aspect of it above in relation to where our wala and bara should be given but the 3rd link does at least work, but unfortunately goes to the same tired arguments and weak position of chain declarations of innovation and being khawarij.

‘so and so is khawarij in our views so anyone who praises him or speaks in favour of him is also and anyone who speaks to him also… yadda, yadda’ you get the idea.

Apart from anything else, once again scholars differed on whether the rulers are even muslim at all, Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim, the respected and much loved teacher of Sheikh bin Baaz disagreed with his student and made takfir upon the rulers in generality for ruling by other than Allaah’s law.

Did you know that? or was that opinion perhaps hidden from you along with the opinions of many ulema of the past and present on ruling by other than Shariah being kufr akbar such as ibn Taymiyyah and Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab who actually listed the ruler and the judge who rule by other than the Shariah as being amongst the heads of the taghweet

So to say anyone who opposes such rulers out of a legitimate following of such scholarly opinions is therefore khawarij is weak and somewhat silly or do the spuds, troid and salafibackbite.net now view Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim, Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab and Sheikh ul Islam ibn Taymiyyah as khawarij also?

Finally the reference you bring from imam Ahmad is more selective quoting because though there is no disagreement in such cases that when the Muslim ruler errs in his judgement in a single case, or is only being oppressive but is still ruling by the Shariah then rebellion against them is haram.

But when the ruler charges the law of Allaah even in only one instance then rebellion is permitted and imam Ahmad made this ruling himself even for just permitting the trade in alcohol.

Apart from anything else, the point of calling al shabab khawarij for rebelling is somewhat silly and nonsensical because they are not rebelling!

Check the chronology of events if you don’t believe me. Al Shabab set up their administration before Sharif was parachuted in by the UN.

They established their administration before Sharif so they should if anything throw this allegation against the supporters of Sharif if they genuinely believed in it rather than just using it as an excuse to support the Saudi governments position of going against their brothers in Islam as was wanted from them by their awliyah in the American government.

So apart from anything else, they are not even genuine to the principles they purport to uphold in such matters.

Sister, as I said before, open you eyes and realise the Salafi manhaj is greater than this narrow group, even if they are the most vocal in the west though be prepared to be declared ‘off the manhaj’ should you start to question them, though that is not necessarily a bad thing.

If any group be they brailwees, other extreme Sufis, deobandis, ikhwaanis or now extreme Salafis like the madkhali movement start excommunicating people just for questioning them and refuse to even sit and listen to alternative views even amongst other Salafis then that is a pretty good indication they are not perhaps as sure as they might say about their proofs and that you may have outgrown them as a believer and it is time to move on, say Jazakallaahu khairan for the help in developing you as a Muslimah, agree to cooperate where you agree and go your separate ways when otherwise.

    Assalaamu Alaykum,
    Daw’ud

  9. OK!! I won’t even go any further than this, because each debate must be beneficial and this does not look as though it will be.

I ask Allah to keep me firm on this dawah because it is the ONLY one which is truthful and based on the authentic narration rather than hawa and ignorance. Ameen

  10. I am sorry to have started this. I thought I could maybe allow you to question and see the misinformation that has been gathered.

BTW; I do not speak for the dwah of the truth…seek knowledge from those that qualified. Not secretive dawah which is what the takfiri way is. I need to know somone to know someone to get into the a lesson.

PLEASE PLEASE question those around you and ask Allah to open your heart to the truth.

    • sister you started it I believe out a sincere intention to please Allaah, to correct your brother you felt had said something wrong for the benefit of your afterlife and mine so no need to be sorry and your reward for this will be with Allaah.

So may Allaah (swt) guide us both to the straight path, correct either one of us where we are astray and where we err give us the reward of a rightous intention, ameen.

  11. Sameeha you need to open your heart and stop following those government sponsored scholars from salafi talk. I used to be like you but after reading quran i opened my eyes and realised they are wrong on many issues. In short they make muslims into cowards, and create fitna within the community, their leaders see saudi as an islamic state and king abdullah as khalif, wallahi i heard this from one of their leaders. Anyone who denies jihad dies on the branch of hypocracy.
